What is that one saying about trees falling in a forest? Was it, “If a tree falls quietly, does it really fall?” No… I looked it up just now, this is what it says, “If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
It’s supposed to be a philosophical question, but it’s really not. When a tree falls, the universe hears it so loudly, like the blast of a gunshot. You may not hear it, but the trees and wildlife around it do. And to them, it was louder than a million screams.
For the tree, to be ripped from its roots hurt like the scorching heat of a thousand suns. The tree was so sure-footed and sturdy, only for it to fall down in the end. It grew over years of having to weather storms, surviving disease, and holding firm during landslides.
It grew from what was once a seed that was placed in that one spot by chance. The chance of it growing into what it became was slim to none. Competing with the other trees and brush, the tree claimed its place in the world to stand among the others. The tree was a safe space for many – bugs, birds, amphibians, worms, squirrels, spiders, and even a cat or two. It offered shade to rest in, a branch to sit on. Even though there were no words, it knew it was loved and cherished.
So when the day came that the roots became too frail or the soil too loose, and the tree fell… From the smallest organism to the vast universe, it was heard.
